The Christmas Kitten

I am told a few years ago (maybe 5 or 6), a couple from up the road had a cat. A little black cat. Now this cat had her sister a small tabby, sadly the little sister was hit by a car. She died. Now this little cat had no friends and she was full of kittens. She eventually had the kittens, all 4 of them and was a happy family for a few weeks.Till one day, the family up and left, taking her kittens with them.

She was alone in the world, and no one would let her in her home, it was snowing and cold, and generally not nice for a small cat. She wandered down the road and found some people who knew what had happened. At first they let her stay in the shed. They gave her a hot water bottle and a basket at night, and breakfast in the morning. But still no one came for her. On Christmas Eve, with no one coming back top collect her, my people decided that she wasn’t going to stay in the shed any longer.

She was given a name, a nice warm home, friends and a family.

Meet Inky the Christmas kitten.

(I am told she used to like getting in bags when she first came to the family)

Now I know her back story is sad and all but Inky I can tell you is a little Madam! After having the kittens she got a big belly and it hasn’t left her, so she wobbles as she walks. She gets a grump on easily and can be really jealous of other cats, but not of me! (Is that good or bad? I don’t know to be honest) and she steals other peoples food; including mine (which is mean).

She likes a conversation with my people, she will sit next to them and meow and meow as they say nice things to her. She likes to poke people with her foot. Especially in the face!

I like Inky because she is funny but she doesn’t seem to like me!

(Note from Human)

Inky is a great cat, if you have ever read the book A Christmas Kitten by Vivienne French (as my sisters and I did as children), she so just reminded us of her.

We do love you Inky, and you can stay here forever.

Sleepover

Over the weekend I had a great sleepover! Though we didn’t get any sleeping done 🙂

My bestest buddy and cousin Joe came to stay. Joe is a Labrador Collie cross which means he is MILES bigger than me. We met when I was a puppy and have been friends ever since. He is a few years older but I don’t know how many and I can tell you is is GREAT! Though his mummy and daddy are really strict. They weigh his food out, take him on timed walks, even measure what comes out the other end. My people are a little bit more uninhibited about those kinds of things.

P1070254

He also isn’t allowed treats, or at least he has special not fattening doggy ones. I think it is a bit sad, he only lives with the two people who are away a lot. I think he enjoys coming to our house for a crazy few days.

P1070275

So we play, we walk and we don’t stop for ages! He is very nice to me I keep putting my bum fluff in his face and sticking my tail on his head. My favourite game is to jump on the sofa…. way it up … and then dive off in an amazing fashion putting my front paws in Joe’s face 😀 He doesn’t seem to mind to much he just grunts and sign and lets me get on with it.

P1070263

He is more fun when we are let outside to race up and down my garden. Though he went for a very big wee and I just happened to run underneath him at that specific time and I got widdle all over me. I had an impromptu bath! Well a quick wash anyway. He stayed all day and all night. I normally love going to bed an sleep for ages, but you can’t do that when your friend is round. So it was sneaky plays and snuffles all night! Oh how much you can annoy people with squeaky toys.

P1070241

After all that playing we have to have a quick nap … we need to be ready for the next round you know.

P1070259

(I am sorry to say the Christmas tree is up already! Not decorated though … just up)

Sway Not Squeak

Sway is a camouflaged ninja cat!

She is a funny colour so when she hides in the bushes you can’t see her and  she can whack you before you even know she is there! Sneaky eh?

555551_117782351700235_1315090417_n

She is Bubbles’ sister (I mean … I know we are all brother and sister but, these two came as a set). A matching pair of felines.  She was supposed to be called Squeak I think… so we had a Bubbles and Squeak like the grub, but somehow that got lost in translation I guess so she ended up as Sway.  A bit of a funny name if you ask me but cats can be like that, and I guess it isn’t as bad as ‘Excalibur’. Still the name stuck, personally like Alfie better but hey ho.

P1020048

To be honest she doesn’t really care for me. No matter how much I try to play or even if I sit next to her, she doesn’t want to know me. She just put her nose in the air and walks off.

Her ear is a little bit ripped, the people tell me it was because a big monster tried to attack the house and she saved everyone. But I spoke to Bubbles and he said he did it to her when they were kittens.

I even tried to chase her but NOTHING, she just sits there and stares. Only If I do something wrong or if I am asleep does she do anything, which is when I want to be left alone! I don’t like it when she sits in my basket though. That isn’t fair she has all the baskets and the cat stools and can even get up on top of this I would never reach! Yet she chooses my basket.

She is an old girl and likes to be with her mummy all the time, which is nice enough.

She is a bit scary, and she gets away with everything, so I will leave it at that!

Attack!

On Saturday I was quite happily walking to the mini supermarket with two of my people. We wanted some lunch before we went on our adventure. Instead halfway down the street, my people noticed a loose dog near the main road. We stopped as, they can not let an animal get hurt, and he would have been hit by a car if left. But before anyone could do anything, he saw me and came running.

I was in his MOUTH! Then I was in the air. One of my people had picked me up and the other had dragged the dog away. Once he had been taken away and the man had come to check if everything was okay, which my people told him it was and he could go now. So he left.

Two other people had heard my screams and came running to me. I was checked over by everyone, and they found blood! Panic set in and they frantically tired to find out what was wrong. I tired to tell them I was okay; scared but not hurt.  They only got the idea when they all found the blood was coming from one of their fingers. The dog had tried to get me but my lovely, amazing person had put her hand in the way.

I was asked to sit down and given some ham and a cuddle. That made it all better and in about 2 minutes flat, I was okay and none the worse for wear. Ham makes thing better you know.

We carried on to the supermarket, and one person waited while the other pop in. On the way home we met a very cute Boxer puppy, I had a good play and all was well. I know all dogs aren’t scary, it is just every now and again you meet the odd nasty one and that shouldn’t make you fear everything. Also a good play with your monkey toy sorts most things.

(Note from Human)

Little Alfie did get attacked this weekend. My sister and I fancied some lunch and decided rather than take the car, we would both go together and walk Alfie in the process before I continued on towards our adventure. We got a few hundred metres out of our house before we both spotted a loose dog. Brown and white about 3 ft in height he was a big doggy. He was just sniffing around and seeing as we were so close to the main road I was worried. I had passed Alfie across to my sister (lucky I did that) and before either of us knew what was happening, the dog had charged.

I thought he was headed for my sister, only too late did I realise he was going for Alfie. The dog had him in his mouth before I knew it and Alfie was screaming like I have never heard him scream before. My sister had managed to kick the dog and wrench Alfie from his mouth, and pick him up above her. But the dog kept going, he was trying to climb her to get to him. I grabbed hold of the dogs tail (the only thing I could reach at this point in time) and pulled him off them both, got his collar gave it a short sharp tug, told him in a stern voice to stop, and it was over.

A small girl dressed in pink, had come round the corner, it was her family’s dog. She was poping to the same shop when he escaped, he was too big for her and shoved her aside out of the gate and free. There was no way she could take it back home. So I offered, I had no bad feeling towards the dog, it was the bloody people controlling him. And how could I be angry at a girl, who was probably lighter than the dog. I took him as far as the gate and put him inside. A man came out, he was obviously worried about his dog, (he had escaped near a main road, who wouldn’t be) . When I told him what had happened he look heart broken, he said he knew he was a dog aggressive dog and had his lead and muzzle to hand. He came and looked at Alfie and was glad he wasn’t hurt. We parted ways and though not more of it.

Then I saw my sisters hand, the dog had got to her trying to get to Alfie. In that instance I felt as though I had failed miserably, I hadn’t protected my younger sister, or my dog. But they were both okay and we carried on.

On the way home we met a lovely puppy, he was a lanky baby Boxer, he played with Alfie and Alfie played with him. It was nice to see he wasn’t put off other dogs at all. The next day we continued on our Sunday walkies as if nothing had happened, we met his normal friends and he seemed fine.

It did raise questions though. The dog bit my sister. Yes because she put her hand near it’s mouth, and in the way of Alfie,  and for the size of the dog it was a very small bite. But a bite is a bite. At the time we both just wanted out of the situation as soon as possible, so left as soon as we knew Alfie was okay. But should we have reported it? Who should we have reported it to? It was a dog on dog attack so not illegal, or breaking any law. But what if I was on my own? What if it was one of the children that walk their dogs along that stretch of road all too often? It could have been so much worse, but it wasn’t.

I just don’t know what to do.

Anyway next week we will continue on our adventures.

Jealous

Why do cats get all the boxes? I know boxes are a cat thing, but for once in a while I’d like to sit in a box.

Perhaps it will make them like me more if I start sitting in boxes too.  Skally is king of the cats and has all the boxes first. It’s not fair.

63883_4983874082998_2115139272_n

Well I rebelled against it and stole that box! For dog kind! We like boxes too, especially ones you can just fit your bum in. They make nice chew toys and good hiding places.

2

Though I had to give it up eventually, it was too small for me to sleep in. I tried though, I will just have to keep to sitting in them and ripping them apart and eating the pieces. Who says dogs can’t like boxes?

Blackberry Picking

P1060834

Is is officially the end of summer basically and the blackberries are out in force!

P1060837

I don’t really like blackberries to be honest, strawberries are an altogether different thing though. But my people didn’t take me strawberry picking, they took me blackberry picking.  So we walked down our usual route till we found the ‘bestest spot ever’, according to them.

P1060832

We stopped, dropped our stuff ans starting picking. What I learned is that people seem to be hurt by the plants, I stuck my face in them like usual and they didn’t do a thing!  Does any other doggy get stung by nettles? I know my ear fluff gets caught in the brambles and I have to bark to let my people know, so that they can come and untangle me.

P1060822

Well I had fun running around and playing with the cut grass. My people picked a whole tub full of blackberries, their hands got covered in pink stuff

+and so did my leg! I was pink for a little bit, till they washed it off. I don’t really want to be pink, I’d like to be white please.

Ed

Contrary to popular belief (don’t I sound posh?) Ed is actually a girl AND I am actually a boy. I wish people would stop telling me I am a pretty girl, it does knock a boys confidence you know.

33498_416454391649_2619144_n

Anyway Ed is a girl; a grumpy, skinny, sassy girl.  She has a right attitude on her, and she eats soooooooo much for a skinny cat! If I ate that much I’d be a chubby puppy. She isn’t too fond of me but I like to sniff her bottom, it smells quite good in a morning I do tell you.

A tabby cat with a little white chin, I must admit she is a pretty little thing.

8058_117782408366896_1126144284_n

She wont play though no matter who tries; person or doggy, she wont play. She also has a really annoying meow, it isn’t really a meow more like a grouch? drawl? croak? I can’t describe it really. She was the most recent addition to the family before I came along, and was found not far from where we live I am told.

I like Ed but She doesn’t like me!

(Note from Human)

Ed was found at the back of a Chinese takeaway about 1/4 of a mile from our house.  She lived with the black bin bags and ate from them. A friend of ours found her and asked if we could take her. With 6 cats already we thought it might be a stretch but as soon as we saw her we just couldn’t say no.

She was named after a rescue cat from the Mann Cat Sanctuary (website here http://www.manncat.com/)

Little Ed was a female one eyed tabby who still got around and loved life, although sadly that was a few years ago and I believe she has passed on. After seeing the ‘Chinese cat’ and looking at how familiar they looked, we knew what we had to call her.

She is a strange little thing. She is so tiny, no matter how much she eats. She will not play if you are watching and she hates her feet being touched. But the saddest bit of them all is that she likes black plastic bin bags. If we leave one out waiting to put something in it, or even if there is a full one about, she will sit on it and go to sleep. No matter what baskets or cushions or beds, she will choose to sit on the bin bags. They must be a comfort to her, a little quirk she can’t let go form her past life. She knew they were a safe place and one where she could find food; the poor little thing.

Now she is as ‘happy as a clam’ and loves to be with you. You can shout her name and she will purr, she just wants to sit next to you and appreciate your company.

Ed you are odd but we love you.

Bubbles Brown

As you may know I live with a lot of Cats. And I have decided it is time to introduce you to Bubbles. Bubbles is the eldest in our little animal kingdom being 13 years old.

P1020068My people tell me he had nasty flu as a kitten and a ‘heart murmur’, supposedly his heart literally skips a beat! He is daft, docile and loves a big cuddle as much as I do! He used to love running round the house and playing with that annoying red dot thing, but now her prefers a nice relaxing potter about the garden and bathing in the sun.

To be honest although Katie isn’t the nicest of cats I do like bubbles, possibly … a little. Okay okay you go me! I like him enough to cuddle up with him and eat with him and even let him give me a little cat bath. I know he is nearly ten years older than me, and a cat. But I don’t care!

(Note from Human)

Bubbles came with his sister Sway, (whom Alfie will introduce soon). They were millennium kittens and a member of the family couldn’t look after them anymore and who were we to say no! They have been a part of my life for such a long time I can’t imagine it without them. He is such a calm cat compared to his sister, he will quite happy sit on your shoulder as you carry him round the house talking to him. He just wants a love, a fuss and a bit of grub.

He was a kitten of cat flu we believe (to be honest we aren’t sure). But when he came to us he had fought his way through it. He does have a heart murmur, and recently in his older years he has ended up with allergies (something like hay fever but for cats).

Bubbles you may snot in our face, our food and on our clothes; and you may be becoming slightly incontinent. But we love you none the less!

Katie Cat

Now all dog kind know that cats can be a problem, they poop indoors! in a box!, they climb places where I can’t go and they steal my biscuits! However I have a confession. I live with 7 feline friends (I use the term ‘friends’ loosely).  Now … 5 out of 7 I can live with,  1 is frightened of me and wont be anywhere near me. But the final cat … the other is the bane of my life! Meet Katie – a calico cat with attitude!
P1020051
Now my people have told me Katie has a sad story to tell and I should feel sorry for her and love her none the less. I do try, but she is a big bully (okay she is actually smaller than me) and although she gets her claws trimmed and she can’t really bite, I wont look her in the face. I did try to befriend her at first, but she just doesn’t like me. I guess we can’t all get along.
Either way Katie isn’t very nice so Canine companions I beg you to beware!
(Note from Human)
Katie was abandoned as a young mother cat with kittens. Sadly her kittens died and she was left alive. We ended up with Katie as someone in our family worked at at Cattery that was helping her to be adopted, and after a few hints (Mum there is a cat at work….. it is sad…. it would love a home), we adopted her. She was scrawny and ugly when we first took her home, but with a lot of love and kindness she turned into the pretty cat you see today. She prefers men – mainly my dad, and hates a cuddle. Though her growls are all show; even when she does bite or claw she has no strength. So Katie even thought you frighten Alfie a little we love you lots.
