Blackberry Picking

P1060834

Is is officially the end of summer basically and the blackberries are out in force!

P1060837

I don’t really like blackberries to be honest, strawberries are an altogether different thing though. But my people didn’t take me strawberry picking, they took me blackberry picking.  So we walked down our usual route till we found the ‘bestest spot ever’, according to them.

P1060832

We stopped, dropped our stuff ans starting picking. What I learned is that people seem to be hurt by the plants, I stuck my face in them like usual and they didn’t do a thing!  Does any other doggy get stung by nettles? I know my ear fluff gets caught in the brambles and I have to bark to let my people know, so that they can come and untangle me.

P1060822

Well I had fun running around and playing with the cut grass. My people picked a whole tub full of blackberries, their hands got covered in pink stuff

+and so did my leg! I was pink for a little bit, till they washed it off. I don’t really want to be pink, I’d like to be white please.

Verdin Park

After all these outing this weekend my people decided to relax a bit and just take me to our local park, I haven’t been for ages!  So pop down the road along the main road. I have to behave here and walk along side my person, or I get told off. Something to do with cars and me being squished, but lets not think of that.

P1060315

Then up on to the walkway above all of the cars. The park is on a big hill so you can watch the little people down below.

Anyway we walked along the walkway and on the left are a set of steps. A big set of steps, I had to bloody well jump up every step as though it was a hurdle! My person should have carried me, that is what they are for right?

P1060329

So up the steps and along quite a cute little path with benches (for the people tired from walking up them steps!) , and up and along.

P1060496

You get to quite a good field where you can have a run and a play. We met two big Weimaraner doggies, which I had a good little play with but I wasn’t to happy when one stepped on my tail and pulled out some fluff! That is my fluff we are talking about, why would they do such a thing. I wouldn’t play after that, the insult!

P1060489

When they had left, I had a ‘mad half hour’ as my people call it. Basically I have a thing about running wildly in circles around my person. It is just sooooooo much fun to feel the wind in your fluff. I mean look at that photo, doesn’t it seem great to you!

P1060339

We walked past some big guy, he was green and funny looking. I am told he was and old man that did some stuff for the town. Supposedly he brought  a human vets to town. Why you’d make a pretend him I don’t know. People are funny things.

Then it was back down the other side of the hill to the main gates of the park. (Aren’t they pretty?) There were that many flowers I had to have a sniff and a little wee (I bet the gardens don’t like me now).

P1060507

It was out the gates and back home after that. I did enjoy my day, and fortunately there was no lasting damage to my tail fluff.

FoAM Picnic and Meeting Lula

“It is often said that the Papillon is a big dog in a little dog’s body. They can do virtually all that a larger dog can do, but with less effort, upkeep, and space requirements” I don’t remember where I found this quote but I liked it. Anyway …. I recently went to a musical picnic with my family, and a friend of theirs. This is Lula (or Talula if you want her full name), she is a fuzzy little Miniature  Schnauzer.

P1050993

I met Lula after just getting out of teeny metal box, and she was a little grumpy, and had a good bark at me. I ignored her and was ready to go and get walking! We didn’t walk too far till everyone stopped and decided it was resting time! (That was a quick walk I tell you!) My people set our a mat and started getting out a lot of food. So I didn’t mind the stopping so early in to my walk.

P1050973

We just sat and had a nice something to eat whilst my people chatted and I met other doggies. Lula was nice although she looked more like a boy than I do with that beard, I think she was jealous of my pretty looks.

She barked a little too much too, there was no need to keep woofing, I was slightly embarrassed to tell the truth. And my people LIKED her. That isn’t fair I say, they are my people, you can’t just go stealing my people.

P1050908

Anyway she sat at one end of the mat and I sat at the other end. The picnic included Bacon, which was great, did I tell you how good bacon is? Well it’s good. After my bacon (and some strawberries). We went on a little walk around the area, it was a nice stretch and to walk off some one the bacon podge I am sure I had put on. I did feel a little better when her person told her that she wasn’t allowed any of the nice foods, because if she ate them she wouldn’t eat her doggy biscuits.

P1050932

With music playing and quite a few dogs about. I made a few new friends, and so did my people. It was a good day, the music was a bit strange but there seemed to be a lot going on.

P1050927

The park is a nice place to be but we shall save the rest of it for another day, today was picnic day.

Hunts Lock

Close to my home is the River Weaver, the River Dane and the canal. My everyday walk consists of walking along side them meeting my friends along the way! We start off in a scrub land area which is left to its own devices. It is wildlife friendly so that the bees and birds can live there happily. It makes for a good walk full of interesting smells, and places to play.

P1050384             It has been a while since my younger person has taken me for this walk and she was so surprised that the grass had gotten so long. It is about 4 or 5 times my height! But as long as I can just about see where i am going or if my person can I don’t mind.P1050419

We had to be a little careful at one point as the grass hid where the land and river met, I didn’t fancy falling in and my person is too big for me to pull out so I decided to take it slowly so she was safe.

P1050424

We continue on the trail, and in the most embarrassing  fashion, I have to be lifted over a stile. but that means we have reached the field.

P1050429

It is looking a bit yellow at the moment but this bit is looked after by someone and was nice and short for me to run  around on and play with my squeaky ball. Then it is on towards the locks.

   P1050435

P1050449

Boats come through the lock regularly and I love to sit and watch them go up and down, so that they can get to different parts of the river. I don’t like it when my person tells me to come on as we need to carry on with our walk.

P1050441

We go to the big new bridge, which I like to look at the ducks from. sometimes my person brings bread for them and they quack and swim towards us. I hide then as they get a bit too much, they are my size you know!

We walk back down to the locks and across and then on towards the train bridge!

P1050454

It is a huge set of arches that are very old! Even older then the oldest person in the house and he is 57! I wonder who was alive when they were made? Anyway they are big and trains cross them to get over the two rivers.

We walk to them usually, although if a train is going across it make a huge and horrible noise. I swear there are monsters up there and I hide and asked to be cuddled by my person.

P1050476

P1050479

Though today we were okay there were no train monsters and I had a nice sit down and some biscuits.

Then it was back home for a nice sleep in the shade.

P1050456

Paddling Pool

Finally Spring has arrived, although it is more like summer now, either way it’s warm. Maybe a little too warm for myself. I have spent the last few days sitting inside in the cool now wanting to go out and not knowing what to do with myself.

P1050229

My people came home with a strange blow up thing, it was like a big bowel. I sat and watched them inflate it and was happy to jump in and out. But then the hose pipe appeared and it was ruined! They put water in it.  Now I think they meant for me to get in it, which I refused to do, I had already had my bath recently.

P1050238

I was eventually put in it, to my dismay and I would not move. I think they meant for me to play with it.

P1050233

Eventually I ran out of it and ran inside to dry myself on the sofa, (they weren’t too happy about that), the rest of the day went without vent till my person came home and saw what her sister had bought. She seemed to love the idea.

We went back outside to the big water bowel, (which I am told is called a padding pool) and she started to play with me with my little squeaky tennis ball. Suddenly it plopped in the water! I didn’t know what to do, I really wanted my ball but I just couldn’t reach from the side!

P1050241

She knocked it closer and I put my mouth in to grab it and got wet! I did that a few times and when the ball was in the middle I thought I’d gingerly stepped in to the water to get the ball, actually it wasn’t as bad as I thought.

P1050252

After a few more goes and a bit of chicken from jumping in and out, (the same trick I do normally in a washing basket), it was starting to be fun. I started racing round the garden and diving in it to retrieve the ball and whooshing back in the house to run back outside again. This is great and I don’t feel as warm anymore!

P1050292

It was time to dry off soon so I tried to dry myself on the grass and in a bush!

P1050308

It turns out that it isn’t the best way and you get really muddy and need another dip again!

P1050243

Time to bring out my favorite part of a bath. THE TOWEL!

P1050358

Now someone called me and asked me if I would like to go inside for some chicken so I pulled the strangest face!

P1050340

I even had my tongue sticking out! Ah well it was a really fun day, and this paddling pool thing is a great idea, although I am not sure what they do with the water afterwards. I think they water the garden with it.
